Intensive Summer Course
“The challenges of public communication within the Latin-American context”

Contemporary societies are going through important changes as regards their political and social structures, thus obligating a redefinition of the models used to analyze events. These changes acquire special characteristics within the Latin-American context, where political institutions and business organizations face new demands and expectations from the communities of which they become part.

Students are presented with a program that will allow them to deeply reflect on the communication processes that involve contemporary institutions. Together with the competence to take part in the communication processes, social communicators must be able to scan the social environment where the organization is housed as well as to outline a proper communication plan.

To that end, focus is placed on students to work on cases that involve public, private and civil society organizations, specially those cases which put them in contact, for students to analyze -from theoretical views- the ethical and social effects that may arouse from communication decisions.

Objectives

When the syllabus is covered, students will be able to:

  • Analyze the public communication processes which involve contemporary organizations.

  • Make reflections about the social place that public, private and civil society organizations occupy as subjects that communicate and that have responsibilities as regards the society.

  • Develop the ability to analyze and practically solve matters related to institutional communication from a social and ethical point of view.
